OTTAWA – August 25, 2025 – On August 19, 2025, 80 Tiree volunteers came together to transform Ottawa Community Housing’s (OCH) Confederation Court Community House as part of the company’s 25th anniversary.

Volunteers installed a new kitchen, applied a fresh coat of paint, and refreshed the community’s outdoor spaces, with support from a $5,000 donation by Tiree that helped make the project a reality.

The event was attended by Stéphane Giguère, CEO of OCH; Traci Spour Lafrance, Executive Director of OCH; Mehdi Louzouaz, Manager of Volunteer Engagement at OCH; Councillor Marty Carr (Alta Vista); John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South; and media representatives from CTV, CBC, and Radio-Canada.

The new kitchen is part of a multi-phase improvement project at Confederation Court, which has housed 651 residents since 1991. These renovations will also support the community’s satellite food bank operations, where demand has quadrupled over the last few years.

These updates mark a significant step forward in improving food security and fostering a stronger sense of belonging, empowering residents with better access to nutritious choices, cooking classes, and shared meals.

The volunteer event was organized by Tiree’s Anniversary Social Committee, a group dedicated to building a strong sense of community through employee-led programs. Acting as a bridge, the Committee matches Tiree’s diverse workforce with meaningful opportunities for volunteerism and community engagement.

Many of Tiree’s charitable partnerships are focused on supporting the health, well-being, and development of children and youth across Canada, where safe, stable housing plays an instrumental role. Guided by our values of community and connection, this marks Tiree’s third engagement with OCH.

OCH is Ottawa’s primary community housing provider, serving more than 33,000 tenants—including seniors, families, individuals, and people with disabilities—helping to create places where everyone can thrive.
