West Block
Ottawa, Canada
Preserving our heritage through meticulous attention to detail.
Built in the Victorian High Gothic Style, West Block positions itself as the oldest building of the majestic triad on Parliament Hill. The Federal Government’s Long-Term Vision and Plan (LTVP) for the Parliamentary Precinct has, since 2001, remained steadfast on its mandate to rehabilitate, modernize, and conserve these heritage assets. The renovation of the West Block paved the wave for Centre Block, providing critical interim space accommodations for the LTVP’s rolling program of work.
Tiree, in Joint Venture with Colliers Project Leaders, worked diligently to deliver this monumental undertaking on time and on budget. Our services included the complete range of real property advisory and project management services including some very specialized services relative to project planning, security, lighting, seismic interventions, and masonry stabilization. Our large team of professionals proudly worked in collaboration with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) for more than 10 years on this project.
The most incredible thing about the restoration of the West Block was the technical complexity. So many critical considerations and innovative solutions for each component of work. For instance…transforming the open-aired courtyard into that spectacular steel and glass roofed parliamentary chamber. And the masonry…dismantling and recladding stone by stone. Not to mention the interior modernization and security interventions. It was all truly spectacular. And whatever we were working on demanded our constant and meticulous attention to detail.
